Since Vetements burst onto the scene with their disproportionate silhouettes, all boxy shoulders and elongated leaves, the fashion industry decided to throw the strict proportions rule book out the window, and they do not seem both have looked back since.
We have seen clothing that has been shrunk and blown up, jackets, trousers even handbags (thanks Fendi!) that have all been reworked into sizes and shapes that would never have been considered fashionable before. This season it seems designers have focused in on the cuff. Hardly a show went by without at least one model who seemed to to have had her hands amputated backstage! Marc Jacobs was the first show at which we clocked the disappearing hands, and from then on it we could not stop spotting it. It seems hands are suddenly out of fashion!
Cuffs are not the only thing that have been super-sized this season, so has the heel, or more specifically, the platform. After seasons of more “sensible” footwear, the fashion pendulum has swung back to the absurd, with 70’s style platform shoes been shown in all four fashion weeks (and even in some of the mens shows!).
So this season bigger is better, do not be afraid to experiment with sizes you would not normally go for, sometimes a jacket that looks boring in your size is suddenly totally transformed in a much larger size. Impractical sleeves and impossible shoes, sounds like fun!
We will be adding items relating to this article to the shop over the next couple of days, so be sure to look out for them!
