Since the appointment of Olivier Rousteing as Creative Director, the Balmain brand has gone from strength to strength. Known for its eye wateringly expensive products, Balmain has become a firm favourite with stars and supermodels such as the Kardashian/Jenners, Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss. The French fashion House was founded in 1946 by Pierre Balmain, and since his death in 1982, has been lead by creative masterminds such as Oscar de la Renta and Christophe Decarnin. When Rousteing took over in 2011, his appointment was met with mixed reviews, mainly due to his age, as he was only 25 at the time. All his doubters were swiftly proven wrong as he produced hit collection after hit collection, attracting legions of fans along the way.
Rousting has proven himself to be the ultimate 21st century designer, completely at ease with the most powerful tool available to brands, social media. His Instagram account has attracted 1.1m followers who love him not only for his designs and cheekbones, but also for his friendships with Rihanna, Kendall and the Kardashian-Wests. Although Balmain and H&M are polar opposites in terms of price and customer, it has been confirmed that Balmain is next in the long list of brands who have signed up to work with the high street giant.
These collaborations have proven themselves to be incredibly successful in the past, always creating huge amounts of press, with the collections consistently flying off the shelves. These collaborations are a great way for high end brands to connect with fans who can’t afford the enormous price tags, but nevertheless love the designs.
Rousteing has managed to turn Balmain into one of the most desirable brands on the planet, and has proved his business savvy once again by creating a collection which we are sure will not only be incredible, but also generate huge amounts of revenue for his brand. H&M will also I'm sure, be looking forward to tapping into the mass amounts of people who love the designs worn by their idols, but whose budgets unfortunately do not stretch to the thousands of pounds demanded by the Brand. Congrats Olivier, we cant wait to see the result of this highly anticipated collection.
