Rain is such an outfit killer. There you are, all ready to leave the house, when all of a sudden it starts chucking it down and you have to take off whatever coat you had on, and replace it with the dreaded, over used, under loved, raincoat. Now, raincoats are definitely practical, and in our UK climate, totally essential, but stylish? Not so much. Yes, the trench coat is undeniably a classic, but that is what it is, a classic. What we have been missing is a cool, innovative answer to our sodden climate, and we are pleased to announce, we think we may have found just that!
Wanda Nylon, a Paris based brand run by Antwerp Royal Academy trained Peter Hornstein (anyone who trained there is worth keeping an eye on) and stylist Johanna Senyk, launched back in 2013 and they have been making waves on the fashion scene ever since. Originally inspired by the 60’s transparent plastic raincoats, the design duo have created a brand which artfully combines retro nostalgia with a sexy, futuristic twist. The result is beautifully cut, lust worthy pieces of clothing, which are not only achingly cool, but totally water resistant. Wanda Nylon have gone from strength to strength, expanding from their unisex outwear into dedicated full mens and womenswear collections, and have been tipped as the next big thing by Demna Gvasalia (one of the Vetements designer and most recent creative director of Balenciaga). We love them for the original use of materials and cut, the fact that they use cutting edge technology that they themselves are pioneering, their brand is incredibly environmentally conscious, and the fact that Wanda Nylon sounds like an exotic dancer in a seedy bar! What’s not to love?
